What is Tinea Manuum?
It is a fungal infection of the hands which is also called ringworm. Tinea causes a red, scaly rash that usually has a border that is slightly raised. This border usually creates a ring and is contagious. It is a slightly less common form of tinea, and you often contract it by touching your feet or groin if they are infected or from others who have the infection. Touching objects contaminated with fungus can also result in infection.
Cause
- Self contamination or from being in contact with infected individuals
- Contaminated showers or other surfaces
- Warm and humid conditions that favor the organisms’ growth
- Animal contact
Treatment
Apply terbinafine hydrochloride cream 1% to the affected area in the morning and evening for 6 weeks.
