Hyperhidrosis

What is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is abnormal and excessive sweating that’s not necessarily related to heat or exercise. Besides disrupting normal daily activities, this type of heavy sweating can cause social anxiety and embarrassment. It usually affects the hands, feet, underarms or face during waking hours and the sweating usually occurs on both sides of the body.

Cause

  • Genetic background – overactive sweat glands
  • Medical condition such as Diabetes, and Thyroid problems
  • Certain medications

Management

  • Treat underlying cause if any
  • Wear clothes that suit your activity
  • Bathe daily
  • Try relaxation techniques
  • Consider BOTOX injections at the clinic
  • Consider non-invasive sweat glands removal at the hospital

Treatment

Use an antiperspirant deodorant every evening before going to bed since they take up to 8 hours to show clinical results.
