What are Cysts?
They are closed capsules or sac-like structures, typically filled with liquid, semisolid, or gaseous material, very much like a blister. Cysts occur within the tissue and can affect any part of the body. They can vary in size from microscopic to large filled sacs.
Important facts:
- Cysts are usually noncancerous and benign
- Cysts are common and can occur anywhere on the body
- Cysts are often genetic or caused by an infection, clogging of sebaceous glands, or injury
- It is unusual for cysts to cause pain unless they rupture, become infected, or inflamed
Management
- Avoid physical injury
- Leave them untouched
- Consult a doctor if there is an often change in color/size or moves freely
Treatment
- Visit a doctor to have them surgically removed in case they are infected and painful.
