What are Corns?
They are thick, hardened layers of skin that develop when the skin tries to protect itself against friction and pressure. Corns tend to develop on parts of the feet that don’t bear weight but on top of your toes and between them. They can be painful when pressure is applied.
Cause
- Wearing tight fitting shoes
- Wearing shoes without socks
- Dehydrated skin
Management
- Wear breathable shoes that give your toes plenty of space
- Use protective covering such as non-medicated corn pads or bandages over areas that rub against footwear
- Moisturize the skin to keep feet feeling soft
Treatment
Follow the below steps to ease the removal of corns:
- Soak feet in warm water for 10 minutes
- Rub the area with an emery board to remove thickened skin
- Dry the area well then apply salicylic acid patches or 40% salicylic acid solution
