What is acne?

It is the abnormal keratinization of epithelial cells within the sebaceous ducts with thickening of the keratin lining resulting in the obstruction of the outflow of sebum and inflammation. Acne is the most common disease of adolescence affecting 85% of individuals aged 15 to 24 years to variable degrees. Having acne on your back and chest is a sign that your acne is more likely to be severe categorized as stage 4 acne.

Cause

  • Accelerated growth of Propionibacterium acne
  • Increase in sebum production
  • High sugar intake
  • Hormonal fluctuations
  • Stress

Management

  • Increase water intake
  • Decrease sugar and oily based food intake
  • Moisturize the body with tea tree oil
  • Avoid wearing tight clothing that might cause sweating and friction
  • Avoid scrubbing to reduce inflammation

Consult a doctor for a prescription of Isotretinoin 1 mg/kg for 6 months
